The German Trade Association for Plastic Foams and Polyurethane has been handing out the "Polyurethane Innovation Award" for 12 years now. The prize is awarded in recognition of innovative and creative ideas in the field of polyurethane process optimisation and production technologies. Winner of the 2010 Award is Kling, which was honoured for its outstanding presentation product designs for hollow polyurethane busts and presentation items.
 
The challenge faced by Kling was to manufacture natural shapes in large volumes, which meant that conventional production techniques soon reached their limit in terms of technical capabilities and cost. To enable it to manufacture these products in a cost-conscious way, the company introduced and further developed a method that involved casting and rotating. This technique allows a vast range of different shapes and surfaces (for example, smooth or rough) to be produced. The surfaces can be finished with high-quality paints or coatings, resulting in unique products that are perfectly tailored to the customer's particular requirements.
